Q: How long has the International Medical School (IMS) been in existence?
A: In 2005 and up until June, 2006, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine commemorated its Inaugural Year with a series of celebrations in communities across Northern Ontario.

Applicants who are submitting transcripts for postsecondary education completed at universities outside of Canada or the US will be required to have their foreign documents assessed by the World Education Service (WES). This requirement applies to coursework that may have been completed as part of an exchange program, as a visiting student, etc. The evaluation must include an overall grade point average conversion for each year of study. Each year the Northern Ontario School of Medicine has 56 seats in the class. 24 seats are at our West Campus at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and 32 seats are at our East Campus at Laurentian University in Sudbury.
Q: What are estimated annual expenses, including tuition and fees, books,
supplies, study materials, housing, food, travel and other living costs, hidden
fee’s/costs?
A: Tuition fees for First Year Medical School students for the year 2006-7 were $15,450. In addition, students are required to pay ancillary fees of approximately $600 and a technology fee of approximately $1,100 each year.

Q: Where do students do their clinical training?
A: The Northern Ontario School of Medicine offers 56 places: 32 at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario (East Campus) and 24 at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario (West Campus). Applications are made to the School without designation of preference for a particular campus. Candidates who proceed to the third stage of the admissions procedure, the invitation to interview, will be asked to indicate their preferred campus. While the Northern Ontario School of Medicine will endeavour to assign successful applicants to their preferred campus, NOSM is unable to guarantee that all students will be offered a seat at their preferred site.
