The University of Brasilia Foundation was created by Law 3.988 of December 15th, 1961. Professor Darcy Ribeiro, who became its first Chancellor, was one of the most enthusiastic supporters of its creation. The architect Oscar Niemeyer designed its main building, the Central Institute of Science (ICC). From its very beginning, the University of Brasilia (UnB) strived for excellence in teaching, research and outreach courses open to the community at large, thereby ranking as one of the most respected universities in Brazil.

Admission at UnB
The presence of a great community of international students, deriving from all the continents, contributes for the diversity of cultures in the university campus. These students interact positively with there brazilian colleagues and makes the UnB the most internationalized university institution of its region.
International students will be able to study at the University of Brasilia, if they fulfil one of the following requirements, in addition to having a good command of the portuguese language:
- Relative of diplomat or diplomatic official serving in Brasilia; More
- Participant of PEC-G or PEC-PG program of witch further information can be found at the Brazilian Embassy in the student’s native country; More
- Participant of an exchange program through signed agreement between UnB and the university of the candidate; More
If you are an eligible student, please forward the following documents:
- University of Brasilia’s Admission Form 2008/2009;
- Letter of Introduction from your home institution duly signed by person in charge of the exchange program;
- An official transcript from your university or college;
- A statement declaring that you have enough financial support to maintain your studies and other living expenses for the intended period of your study program here in Brasilia;
(UnB dose not offer room and board for any student. However, free tution is offered and meals are available at reasonable prices, as well as a housing orientation service.)
- A copy of your passport.
These documents must reach UnB either in January or June, depending on when you plan to start your studies. The first semester is normally from March to July, and the second is from August to December.
For your additional information, we offer an intensive portuguese course. It is divided into two semesters of 90 hours each. This course enables the student to read and write in the language. For more information, please look at this website: www.unb.br/il/peppfol.
