USMLE step 2 ck expereince

October 25th, 2009 · No Comments

My journey and exam experience:
study time: 4 months, mostly kaplan lecture notes, uworld, kaplan qbank, then uworld again.

Uworld first run: finished in 1 month(100-150 questions a day and then review them the same day.) avg score 50-58%
then would try to read for 4 hours then kaplan questions.

Material: I read kaplan 3 times fast and first aid once. Although first aid was one of the better review books for ck, I think kaplan is the only way to go. I couldn’t afford to pay for the classes so I just bought the books. It is not necessary to take the course but it can help. Bottom line: no matter how many courses you take, you have to know the material!

3 weeks before the exam: only world questions. 150 questions timed then review them the same day. avg score 65-70%

Day before the exam: i skimmed first aid, spending a minute a page looking at the highlights. by know i knew the material so it was a matter of refreshing memory not reading or studying.

Time: Always an issue especially if you waste too much time on one question. I made that mistake on two blocks. One of them I was left with 2 minutes and 4 questions.

Exam day: was very nervous, sat outside the center skimming for 20 minutes but walked into my exam early and signed in. skipped tutorial but made sure headphones were working. Took a snack break, bathroom break after every block. There were people who were taking step 3 and were relaxing, taking long break but I had made up my mind to take a break after every block even if it was only 3 minutes. No lunch just snacks during every break because i did not want to feel sleepy or sloppy after the meal. time went fast and i kept track of every block i completed so i would not forget where i was in the exam.
